Blair ------------------------------------ Mulder Residence Chilmark, MA Sometime in July 1973 "Mommy, can we invite Dana to go camping?" Samantha Mulder asked her mother as she was watching her bake chocolate chip cookies. Teena Mulder looked at her daughter and gave her a warm smile. "Camping? We don't have any plans to go camping. Your father's busy as it is..." "Mommy... I mean, the backyard..." Teena sighed. She wasn't sure if it was a very good idea but she relented. "All right. It's fine by me --" "Yay! Thanks Mommy," exclaimed Samantha, happily. She gave her mother a quick hug and she could feel her mother stroking her long, straight, brown hair. "I hope Dana receives permission..." "I hope so too," said Teena with a laugh. She watched her daughter walk towards Fox. "OK buttmunch, we can camp in the background. When Dana gets her OK..." "...then we can go stargazing!" exclaimed Fox. He gave his sister a knowing smile. "Do you think she can convince them?" Samantha nodded. "I think she can handle herself." * * * Scully Residence Chilmark, MA Sometime in July 1973 "Fox, it's me," replied Dana Scully into the phone. She could hear his voice in the receiver. "Yeah? Do you have the permission?" asked Fox, with a mixture of both alarm and curiousity. "Yes, I do. I'll meet you and Samantha later tonight," said Dana as she twirled the cord. Melissa yelled. "Dana, dinner!" "Excuse me for a second," replied Dana as she put her hand on the receiver. "Coming, Missy!" She paused and she spoke into the phone. "I've got to go." "Dinner?" "Yeah." "I'll see you later, Dana." "Same with me, Fox." * * * Mulder Residence Three hours later Dana arrived to the Mulder residence a few hours later, carrying her sleeping bag and a carry-on which included: her nightgown and a change of clothes for the next day. She smiled when she saw her best friend, Samantha, who led her to the backyard where Fox was waiting. "I'm glad you're able to come, Dana," said Samantha. She watched her friend put down her sleeping bag on the lounge chair. Dana nodded. "Me too. This will be fun!" Sleeping in the backyard has always been one of her favorite activities ever since she turned seven a couple of years back. She sat down on the lounge chair and sat back to watch the formations of the stars. "Do you ever wonder what it'll be like to be with the stars?" asked Fox. Samantha made a face at her brother. "No - it'll probably be lonely, Fox. I hope you don't get started talking about E.T." Dana never heard that term before so she whispered to Samantha. "What's E.T.?" But Fox answered her question. "E.T. means extra terrestials. Life that doesn't exhist here but somewhere else. You know, aliens from a different universe other than our own." Dana sighed. She already learned about solar system a couple of years ago and knew she has a gift in science. "I know about our own planets, Fox." "Do you believe in aliens, Dana?" "Tell him 'no', Dana," whispered Samantha. "He always asks me the same question over and over again. Dad always tell him stories about aliens and he totally believes it." "I feel like I heard this question before," whispered Dana. "I had a dream last night where I was in this basement office and your brother asked me the same thing." "Basement office?" inquired Samantha as she wrinkled her nose. "Do you mean my brother will actually work?" Dana sighed. "Yeah. Anyways, he asked me the same question. I think I remember what words I used in the dream..." A short pause and then she faced Fox. "Logically, I would have to say no." Fox nodded. "So what's this dream?" "Ah - nothing." Fox was curious, as always, and he wanted to know what he was like in Dana's dream. "What was I like?" Samantha laughed. "Probably as annoying as you are now, buttmunch!" Samantha's exclaimation didn't deter Fox from finding out the details of their friend's dream and then Dana related what happened. "Well, we worked at this FBI office..." "FBI?" inquired Fox. "Why would I work there?" "I don't know," said Dana with a shrug. "You asked me the same question in the dream and I answered the same way as I did now. It was like deja vu." She took a deep breath and then continued, "You were very cute in the dream." Fox was even more curious about the dream and he slightly blushed at Dana's mentioning that he was 'very cute' in her dream. "What else?" Dana frowned and looked at Samantha. "You told me that Samantha was abducted by aliens." "Sometimes Fox wishes that he was abducted by aliens," said Samantha. She decided to change the subject as she noticed Dana had a sorrowful expression on her face. "Dana, I wouldn't worry anything about the dream." "What happens if it's a psychic dream? Melissa tells me all the time if I dream about the future than it will come true." "Since we know the future, maybe we can prevent it from happening in the first place?" suggested Fox. Dana laughed. "How are we supposed to do that? What are we going to do? Fight the future?" "That's a good theory," said Fox. "Dana's right, Fox. How are we going to prevent my own abduction?" inquired Samantha. "I don't know - we'll think of something, Sam." "I hope so, Fox." Samantha looked over at her brother and then to her friend, knowing she was safe with them. She really hoped with all of her heart that they'll do anything to stop the future from happening. But not completely. Samantha smiled at Fox and Dana because she knew they're going to be together someday. *That's the future I wouldn't mind seeing,* thought Samantha. It was the last thought Samantha had before she drifted off to sleep. End of Story. Feedback: Much appreciated. Send to: eblair@sonic.net Author's Notes: Ever since "Closure", I have decided to write my own "Samantha" fanfic because I feel there's so much more to her than meets the eye. I feel we don't really know much about her. Her diary entries in "Closure" of what she endured brought so much emotion to me. I can't describe it, but I was touched by her. I want her to live on in my fanfic. So every now and then, I'll be writing a story about Samantha's life in a slight alternate universe where she meets Dana Scully. Those two, I'm quite certain, would have a lot in common.
