From: Jadecow14@aol.com Date sent: Tue, 17 Feb 1998 02:04:27 EST Subject: Wishes 1/1 By Diane A. Doty I swear I didn't intend this to even be a fanfic! It just turned out this way. Anyway, it's my 15th so I figured if I wrote 14 others with a point (more or less anyway), I could do this one that doesn't have one. You guys can't get too mad at me then. And it's only a page, so read it anyway. You might like it. (gee don't I just make you all *want* to read this?) I'd love feed back on this 'cos it's not my normal thing of thing to write. Also, please someone let me know if the formatting is looking alright. Thanks goes out to the members of OTWC (official teen writers club), who are stuck with the job of reading this crap before I torture anyone else with it. Thanks guys! TITLE: Wishes 1/1 AUTHOR: Diane A. Doty E-MAIL: Jadecow14@aol.com DISCLAIMER: The X-Files owned by CC, 1013 and Fox. Not me. No infringement intended. KEY WORDS: Pre-XF DISTRIBUTION: Go ahead, just ask me first, K? SUMMARY: Told in first person by Kate Williams who meets a teenage Mulder near a wishing well. CATEGORY: I dunno RATING: G enjoy *** Wishes (1/1) By Diane A. Doty *** His dark eyes were fixed on me as I leaned over the edge of the well. I ignored him, assuming he was just another kid that was just hanging out by the well. After I dropped my penny in -for some reason I felt compelled to actually use the wishing well-, I began to wonder why he was there. Was he there to get away from it all like I was? Or was he just sitting there for the fun of it? I stared into the murky water and wondered. His voice startled me. "What did you wish for?" He asked. I spun around surprised that he had spoken. He was smiling now, his eyes that had seemed dark were now bright green. I returned his smile. "If I tell, it won't come true." I said, walking over towards him. He shrugged. "True, I guess." He mumbled, moving over on the bench so I could sit. He waited for me to sit before continuing. "Do you believe your wish will come true?" He asked. I sighed. The one thing I want in the world won't happen. "No." He looked surprised at this. "Why not? Not realistic?" "No." I replied, not really into giving a full answer. I didn't want to tell him that all I wanted was my family back. "Neither are mine." He said after a long pause. Something flashed across his eyes, indecision. He was debating about telling me what he wished for. I wanted to know, but I wouldn't push him. I didn't even know his name. He didn't say anything, so we both just sat there in silence. Then I remembered the time. I stood, I had to get back to the foster home where I now lived before they sent out the search parties. He looked up at me, then back at the ground which he had been looking at almost the whole time. I wanted to know who he was. "My name's Kate Williams." I said, he looked up a smiled. "Fox Mulder." I turned the name over in my head, wondering why it was so familiar. That was it! "You're a senior, right?" He nodded. "I heard your name on the morning announcements yesterday. Congratulations on beating you best track time." He smiled. "Thanks." He mumbled. "No problem." I looked at my watch. "I have to go. I'll see you around." He just nodded, and continued to look at the ground. I wanted to know what was going on in his head, but didn't ask. Instead I just left. I didn't learn until later that day that we both wanted basically the same thing back. He was going to get what he wanted back, I wasn't. He had hope, however small it was. He would find what he was missing. *** The End. well, what do you think? Send all comments to Jadecow14@aol.com *** "That which doesn't kill us makes us stranger." Trevor- Eon Flux "Scully?" "Yes?"
